Meditation on Breath 013

$275.00
sold out

12.5 x 8.5 in.

bamboo, raffia

〰️

This collection of 18 weavings was made during a 3-week residency at AZ West in Joshua Tree, California in May of 2024. Over the course of the residency, Eliza made one woven work per day as an exercise in iterative design.

The concept of “meditation on breath” is an execution of quantitative design. Each piece contains 60 warp threads, representing the number of seconds per minute, and between 12 and 20 undulations of weft, representing the human average of breaths taken per minute. In this way, each work is an actualized rendering of the concept of breath. As the craft of weaving is often quite methodical and repetitive, the meditative quality of the process is infused into the work itself.

Please note that this collection is currently on view until August 10th. Any works sold will be shipped out the following week between 8/12-16. This work comes ready to hang.

This piece, along with a few others, is being curated into a show in Atlanta at the end of September. Details to come 🐍
Really started to hit a stride around day 9 of my desert series, which was right at the halfway point of my residency. I introduced some new materials, like this sisal, and the pieces started getting larger and more textural.

This one was a little tricky to photograph - it’s very white! Hehe oops 🫠
Just a really good lookin rock from the high desert 🪨

Reminder that my latest series, a collection of 18 weavings from my Joshua Tree residency, are available this week - Wednesday and Thursday at noon EST !
There’s something melodic about this piece. Between the looped weft tops and layered bottoms, it seems to want to move and dance. Feels kinda joyful, I like that.
