About
Eliza Bentz is a fiber artist and sculptor from the barrier islands of Southeast Georgia. She works with natural, repurposed, and found materials to create fine art and objects. Her work is concerned with the intersection of craft history and industrialization and is made as a means to reclaim tactility and agency in a world concerned with consumption and convenience. She considers her craft to be a ritual of sorts, the process a repetitive meditation held within the fixed space of the woven matrix.
Bentz is particularly fascinated with binaries, dialectics, and the vast space held between two disparate concepts. Her woven work translates mathematical and textual data into threads and color, embodying both language and quantitative investigations.
In addition to her work on the loom, Bentz works in wood, ceramics, and paper. By approaching everything with a “weaver’s agenda,” Bentz continues to push the boundaries of textile art and processes, finding ways to marry sculptural media within her fiber practice.
Bentz graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2017 with a BFA in Fibers and has since gone on to exhibit, teach, and hold residencies both nationally and internationally. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Georgia, where she graduated in 2025. Bentz now lives and works in Savannah, Georgia.
